eBooks are here!!!  eBooks are here!!

We are enjoying the amount of research students are engaged in, on such a wide variety of topics. The thing is, when several students are working on the same topic, there are times when all our books are out—first come, first served. Although this is not necessarily fair, there is not much we can do about it. Sometimes we circulate the books for only a few days, but this is not ideal for long-range projects.
Although, of course, we are thrilled that some of you are requiring students to bring a book back to class, we want to remind you that BHS Library has a large collection of electronic books that are accessible through our catalog or through our online databases, from any computer. The eBooks come from four different sources: Follett, Gale, ABC Clio, and Amazon Kindle and have slightly different methods of retrieval.
Here are some tips for access that you can share with your students.
How to access Gale, ABC Clio, Follett, and Kindle eBooks through the catalog
  • Go to the BHS catalog
  • For everything, do a Basic Search for electronic books or eBooks
Or do a Power Search to select Material Type. Choose electronic books.
  • For Gale only, type in Gale Virtual Reference and select material type, electronic books.
  • For ABC Clio, type in ABC Clio, and select material type, electronic books.
  • Once you select a title, click on it. On the following screen, you’ll see the book’s record.  Click on the blue link that says “Available through Gale Virtual Reference Library” or “an electronic link in the ABC Clio online database”.
  • For Follett books, type in Follett and select material type, electronic books. When you get to the record, click on OPEN, on the upper right hand side. Because these are single user books, you must remember to log out when you’re done.
  • For Kindle books, type in Kindle and select material type, electronic books.
How to access Gale through the Database page
Go to our Database Page, from our Website. Click on Gale Virtual Reference Library. You can browse the books or search a topic.
Note: For ABC Clio, outside the library, you may need a username and password: brooklinehs   brooklinehs
To get into Follett, you need username and password:  bhs   bhs or your individual login to Destiny.
Additional passwords are on our database password sheet.
